Welcome! My name is Deana Medina. I enjoy working with children, teens, adults’, couples and families. I am passionate to work with you, in your quest for freedom and overcome challenges that you, your child, teenager, partner or family may be experiencing. From children, adolescents, and teens experiencing behavioral challenges, to adults managing PTSD, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and substance recovery.
I am an associate marriage and family therapist. I received my Master of Arts degree from Antioch University Los Angeles. My educational journey focused on all conditions an individual may be experiencing with a concentration in trauma psychology.
I am pleased to say my education sought to include social justice and multicultural awareness. Important components of multicultural awareness include explicit awareness of cultural influences in society and skills to communicate effectively across cultures. Being educated in a multicultural society we must be aware of psychological, social, economic and political issues associated with culture, race, class, ethnicity, age, and gender. I am passionate about demonstrating appropriate sensitivity to clients, and their cultural background and multicultural issues.
I am most alive when I am helping people and making a difference. My training has afforded me the opportunity to continue to support the trauma agency culture. I recognize that there are multiple issues and factors that influence and shape all survivors within their communities. Although there are many factors that cause, contribute, and complicate psychological trauma, distress can rob the child, teen, adult, couple and entire family system of a sense of power and it can create a loss of identity in an individual.
Therapy is about breakthroughs, small, medium and large; rather than about transformation. I aim at resulting in the development of a mutually trusting relationship. Working with individuals gives me the opportunity to help improve my community’s well-being by creating a stimulating and nurturing environment that empowers children, teens, adults’ couples and families.
It is my mission to continue to support all ages with a wide variety of conditions in our community. I am dedicated to helping clients move toward their best selves. I believe in working uniquely with an individual, couple and family. I value the idea that individuals are unique and I strive to make a difference for each one. My approach to therapy is compassionate, understanding, unbiased and non-judgmental.
As a therapist I am authentic, warm, accepting and supportive. I create a safe place where clients can explore their emotions and thoughts safely, and feel empowered. I am passionate to focus on unconditional acceptance, positive reflection, trust, autonomy, resourcefulness, identity and connection with others.
